$15 Million Production From Xilam

The French animation house Xilam is producing an 85-minute 2-D animated feature, Tous a l'Ouest, based on the graphic novel La Caravane (1964) written by Rene Goscinny (Asterix) and illustrated by Lucky Luke creator Morris.  This will actually be the fourth Lucky Luke animated feature, but the first since 1983.  Olivier Jean-Marie, who directed a successful series of Lucky Lucky animated TV shows (Les Nouvelles Adventures de Lucky Luke -- 52 episodes 2001), will helm the new film, which will be produced in France with a budget of $15 million.

A number of Lucky Luke graphic novels are available in English from Cinebook Ltd. While the Lucky Luke series has never gained much traction in the U.S. (though it is popular in Canada), in Europe it ranks just behind Tintin and Asterix in popularity.
