High School Musical 2, the sequel to the hugely popular High School Musical made for TV movie, will debut on the Disney Channel on August 17 at just about the same time that Tokyopop will be releasing its High School Musical Cine-Manga (see 'Disney Channel Blockbusters').

The original High School Musical garnered 7.7 million viewers during its initial broadcast and sold 2.2 million DVDs during its first five days of release, making it the most popular made for TV movie ever on video.

Tokyopop's full color High School Musical Cine-Manga, which uses images from the original movie along with word balloons to turn the film into a full color graphic novel, will be out just in time to take advantage of the premier airing of High School Musical 2. The devotion of the young fans to Troy, Gabriella, Chad, Taylor, Zeke and the rest of the cast can be demonstrated by the fact that in spite of huge DVD sales and repeated airings on television, the CD soundtrack from the original High School Musical production was the most successful CD release of 2006.
