In an interview at the Cannes Film Festival where he was introducing his film project based on Will Eisner's The Spirit to buyers and the foreign press, Frank Miller told a correspondent from the Rotten Tomatoes Website: 'Sin City 2 is still likely to happen, just not right away.  The script is written and Robert and I are raring to go, but it looks like I am going to do The Spirit first (see 'Miller to Helm Spirit Movie'), and Robert is going to do Barbarella first (see 'Rodriguez to Direct Barbarella').'

While retailers should be able to profit from the release of Miller's adaptation of The Spirit by displaying DC's classy Spirit reprints as well as the considerable Will Eisner backlist of graphic novels (see 'Norton Acquires Eisner Graphic Novels'), the first Sin City film incited a veritable orgy of graphic novel sales.  Although some book industry observers are worried about Miller's adverbial choice ('likely'), the first Sin City film was far too profitable a venture not to be sequel-ized, especially in Hollywood's current risk-averse environment, which is all about developing profitable franchise properties.
