This November University Games will release a board game based on the Spiderwick Chronicles movie, which will open nationwide on February 15th.  The deluxe Spiderwick Chronicles Board Game (MSRP $24.99) features art from the film, which closely follows the intricate designs in the Spiderwick Chronicles YA novels by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi.

In the movie, which condenses the plots of five short novels into one coherent narrative, Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) plays twins who move into a ramshackle Victorian house with their mother (Mary Louise Parker) and older sister (Sarah Bolger).  When one of the twins discovers their great uncle's Fantastical Field Guide to Faires, which is coveted by a ten-foot shaping-shifting ogre (played by a typecast Nick Nolte), the action in this clever compendium of fairy and goblin folklore really heats up.

University's Spiderwick Chronicles Board Game, which is subtitled 'The Fantastical Field Guide Mystery Game' replicates the action of the movie as goblins chase the children who have to discover the Field Guide and race to Uncle Spiderwick before the goblins can capture them.  The deluxe game features a 3-D Spiderwick Estate as well as molded plastic goblins.

University also plans to release a 200-piece Spiderwick Chronicles Puzzle (MSRP $7.99), which depicts the Gothic Victorian intricacies of Uncle Spiderwick's secret study.  In addition to the board game and the puzzle University Games is also releasing a stand-alone Spiderwick Chronicles Card Game ($5.99) in December.
