Brave New World has been serving the Santa Clarita valley in Southern California for 12 years.  This store's signage was unmistakable and un-missable, and was created for the store by a local animator turned comic artist.  BNW also set up a min-store in the lobby of a local theater to sell Spider-Man merchandise on opening weekend.  Owner Atom Freeman says, 'Sales have never been better.'

The Store

Brave New World is a full service comic store that has been serving Southern California's Santa Clarita Valley for the last 12 years.  We carry a full line of comics, graphic novels, toys, t-shirts and more.  Our focus has always been on marketing comics as a literacy tool and entertainment for the entire family.

The Display

For the Spider-Man movie, and Free Comic Book Day, we pulled out all the stops, from advertising to promotion.  We began a month in advance by having local animator turned comic artist AJ Jothikumar (BTVS: Willow and Tara - Wilderness) paint a 20-foot Spider-Man on our storefront.  Then in an effort to bring BNW to the people, we set up a 'Brave New Satellite' in the lobby of our local theatre, stocked, exclusively with Spider-Man merchandise, books, posters and t-shirts.

Results

While it's hard to tell what has had the most impact on sales: FCBD and its promotion, the Spider-Man movie, the window display, or the abundance of great product to sell, sales have never been better.  Between sales at the store and the satellite, Brave New World was able to achieve a weeks worth of sales in one day (May 4th).  Sales are currently running 25% higher than this time last year!  Despite ordering what was thought to be a year's worth of Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 1 TPB, we sold out in only 3 days.  It's going to be a great summer!
