Viz, LLC has discontinued all periodical comics and announced that the storylines from the monthly comics will continue in graphic novels that will appear in the fall and winter of this year.  The last issues of the cancelled monthly comic titles are: The All-New Tenchi Muyo Part 2 #5, Bastard !!#15: Undead!! Part 1, Battle Angel Alita: Last Order Part 1 Issue #6, The Big O Part 3 #4, Ceres, Celestial Legend Part 5 #1, Inu-Yasha Part 7 #7, and Project Arms Part 1 #6.  All the storylines will continue in graphic novel releases but it will take a while for the graphic novel program to catch up.

The Tenchi Muyo storyline will unfold in The All-New Tenchi Muyo Graphic Novel #3, which will be available this fall.  The Bastard saga will continue in Vol. #5 of the Bastard graphic novel series, which is also due out in the fall.  The Battle Angel Alita story continues in Volume #2 of the graphic novel series, which is also set for a fall release.  The Big O saga will continue in Book #5 of the Big O Graphic Novel series that is due out this winter.  The Ceres storyline will continue in Volume #5 of the Ceres Graphic Novel series this fall, while the Dragon Ball saga continues in Vol. #12 of the graphic novel series, which is due out this fall along with Vol. #15 of the Inu-Yasha tankoubon series and Vol. #2 of the Project Arms graphic novel, which will represent the continuation of the storylines from both of those comic series.  With this decision by Viz, the transition from publishing manga in the Americanized monthly periodical format to releasing Japanese titles in the same tankoubon ('graphic novel or comic collection') format used in Japan is almost complete.  Among the major manga publishers in the U.S., only Dark Horse is still publishing monthly 32-page comics, and this format is used only with the biggest titles in the Dark Horse manga stable including Ghost in the Shell, Blade of the Immortal, and Oh My Goddess.
