Central Park Media has announced that it will release Cat Soup, the award-winning anime short on September 9.  Directed by Tatsuo Sato (Nadesico), Cat Soup is based on the manga series Nekojiru Udon which appeared in GARO in the early 90s.  GARO is the Japanese equivalent of RAW magazine, so Cat Soup's avant garde pedigree is obvious.  Produced without any dialogue, the Cat Soup anime has a surreal style that stems from the psychedelic imagery of late artist Nekojiru and yet still manages to include universal themes amidst the story of a young cat and her brother, who embark on a journey to Other Side in an attempt to retrieve a lost soul from death.  The 33-minute short film won the 'Best Short Film' award at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, and will have its U.S. premier at the Big Apple Anime Fest.  Central Park Media is producing two versions of Cat Soup -- a regular edition with an srp of $19.99 and a Limited Edition with a special psychedelic Liquid Art Package for $24.99.  Both editions include 33 minutes of commentary and features along with the 33-minute film.
