Almost 25 years after it became a worldwide hit, Douglas Adams' hilarious Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy looks like it will finally be made into a major motion picture.  The humorous science fiction novel, which started out as a radio play for the BBC, never made it to the screen during Adams' lifetime although he spent the final years of his life writing screenplay adaptations for various Hollywood types including director Ivan Reitman (Animal House) and former Monkee Mike Nesmith.  Today, however, Variety reported that a new version of Adams' screenplay, which has been polished by Karey Kirkpatrick (Chicken Run), is ready to go.

The English commercial and music video directing team of Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith (known as Hammer & Tongs) who have done videos for UB40, Robbie Williams, Fatboy Slim, and the Bluetones, will make the Hitchhiker's Guide their first feature film project.  The best news of all is that according to Variety, Spyglass Pictures is 'budgeting the film and will soon set a start date.'
