HK Comics Ltd. has split from ComicsOne and selected Diamond Book Distributors as the exclusive US and non-exclusive worldwide distributor of English language editions of its graphic novels to the booktrade. One of the titles created by the Hong Kong-based HK Comics and published in the US by ComicsOne, Wang Du Lu and Andy Seto's adaptation of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, has already enjoyed considerable success in US bookstores. ComicsOne published the first four volumes of Crouching Tiger, but HK Comics will produce #5. Since Diamond distributes ComicsOne titles to bookstores, the addition of HK Comics to the Diamond Book Distributors roster actually means little in the way of change, unless HK Comics decides to bring some of its other titles to the US market. While not as popular in Asia as Japanese and Korean manga and manwha, Chinese comics, which draw heavily on Chinese history, mythology, and martial arts traditions, are firmly established in publishing centers in Hong Kong and Singapore, and have a potentially huge market in mainland China.
