Tokyopop has announced another new manga series, the space age comedy Mahoromatic, which features art by Bow Ditama and a story by Bunjuro Nakayama.  The six volume manga series inspired a major anime production from Gainax, which Geneon (formerly Pioneer) is releasing in the U.S.

The story of a female battle android created to defend Earth from alien invaders, Mahoromatic's central character, Mahoro, after fighting long and hard to defend her home planet, chooses to prolong her life by disconnecting her battle functions and go to work as a maid for a cute teenage boy.  A great deal of comedy ensues in this male fantasy series, which is rated 'OT' or 'older teen'  (18+) by Tokyopop.

Mahoromatic is yet another strong new title in Tokyopop's 2004 spring lineup.  With Tokyopop and Viz gearing up production and the launch of Del Rey's manga line in the spring of 2004, things could get very interesting in bookstores and comic shops come next April and May.
