Tokyopop and Disney Publishing Worldwide have announced an expansion of the popular line of Cine-Manga books, which incorporate images directly from films and television series--adapting the source material to a fumetti-style, quasi-comic book format.

In 2003 Tokyopop sold more than 670,000 volumes of its three Cine-Manga releases, Finding Nemo, Kim Possible, and Lizzie McGuire, and this success has led Tokyopop and Disney to expand the program for 2004.

Lilo & Stitch, the first 2004 Cine-Manga title, comes out later this month followed by That's So Raven, Princess Diaries 2, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, and The Incredibles.  Pop culture retailers are urged to pay particular attention to The Incredibles, which is based on the Pixar-produced film about a family of superheroes.  Given Pixar's track record (Toy Story, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo), The Incredibles should be huge and the subject matter should have a stronger appeal to the older pop culture shop clientele than previous Pixar films.

Retailers can look for an increasing number of Cine-Manga titles in the near future as Tokyopop and Disney have slated 24 titles over the next three years.
