Geneon Entertainment has acquired North American home entertainment rights to XEBEC's Fafner, one of the most sought-after anime series.  The 26-episode Fafner series is the twenty-first century's answer to Neon Genesis Evangelion -- a post apocalyptic giant robot saga with an elliptical plot structure and an overlay of Norse/German Mythology (Fafner is a key character in the Wagner's Ring Cycle) that lends depth to the proceedings.  Fans of science fiction anime will not only respond to the convoluted story line, they will also appreciate the series' high production values and the soundtrack, which features the work of the J-Pop sensation angela.

Geneon plans on releasing the first Fafner DVD in July along with the Fafner Original Soundtrack CD featuring angela's distinctive songs.  The acquisition of Fafner, along with yesterday's announcement of home video and merchandising rights to the Viewtiful Joe multi-media property (see 'Geneon Gets 'Viewtiful Joe' Rights') make this a very strong week indeed for Geneon.
