Going into the opening weekend for Robert Rodriguez' Sin City, the graphic novels hold the top three spots on the bookstore graphic novel bestseller list from Bookscan; and the movie is expected to win the weekend, according to Variety.  Tracking numbers for Sin City are similar to those of Constantine, which opened at around $30 million (see 'Constantine Debuts at Number Two').  But the Sin City total could be higher because the older skew of its audience could give it an easier time getting in to see this R-rated flick, according to the article.

The large cast has been everywhere this week, bearing clips and talking up the movie, and the TV ads seem to be on more frequently as well.

The graphic novels have been selling well in both comic stores and bookstores for weeks (see 'Sin City Trades Take Off'), but they are now lined up at the top of the bookstore chart, with Volumes 1, 2, and 3 in slots #1, #2, and #3 in order (volume 4 has the #5 slot).  If the movie has a big weekend, that could be only the beginning.
