G4, the videogame-oriented cable channel that took over Tech TV, announced that it has acquired the broadcasting rights for three ADV anime series, RahXephon, Cromartie High and Colorful.  The three series will become part of G4's all-new late-night Barbed Wire Biscuit block, which will run Monday through Friday midnight (ET, PT).

RahXephon will premier on G4 on Friday, September 2 at midnight.  With its musical overtones RahXephon is a science fiction anime that has been compared to Neon Genesis Evangelion in complexity of plot.  As in NGE the hero of RahXephon battles powerful alien invaders with the help of a giant mecha, but the actual state of the world and reality remains a mystery throughout much of the series.

In contrast to RahXephon, Cromartie High, which premiers on G4 in December, is a high school comedy about an ordinary guy who is sent to a school filled with delinquents.  As the hero battles a never-ending parade of rivals, Cromartie High manages to parody all the predictable elements of tough guy anime series.

Also debuting on G4 in December is Colorful, a 16-episode anime series that just doesn't contain 'fan service,' it is all about 'fan service' as it follows a group of male characters searching for glimpses of cleavage and panties.

In addition to DVDs for these three series (all available from ADV), ADV has the original Cromartie High manga series, which inspired the anime, and Viz has a 3-volume manga adaptation of RahXephon.
