Upper Deck Entertainment has announced that it is planning a May release for Pirates of the Caribbean, the second trading card game (TCG) featuring its new Quickstrike gaming system.  The Quickstrike system will debut in the Avatar: The Last Airbender TCG (see 'Avatar TCG Introduces Quickstrike').

The Pirates of the Caribbean TCG will launch in May with a 235-card series, The Briny Deep, which will be available in Starter Sets and Booster Packs.  The two-player The Briny Deep Starter Set will be packaged in the new UDECK carrying case, and will feature two 30-card randomly assorted decks, two slide-open Chamber Cards, two game mats and one rule book.  The Briny Deep Booster Packs will feature nine randomly assorted game cards and one Chamber Card in each pack.

A new Pirates of the Caribbean movie starring Johnny Depp, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, opens on July 7th, 2006, which should keep this property in the public eye, and the Disney Press plans to publish a full color graphic novel adaptation of the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, which was the surprise hit of 2004, next spring (see 'Disney Steps Into Graphic Novel Fray').
