Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that Peter Jackson's version of King Kong is the studio's best-selling DVD ever thanks to its opening week's sales of more than 6.5 million units, which represents more than $100 million in consumer spending.  This first week's take on DVD comes in addition to the films $550 million worldwide theatrical gross. 

 

King Kong is the number 2 DVD release of Q1 2006 topped only by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which chalked up sales of 5 million copies on its first day of release and sold nearly 9 million units during its first week.
