Paul Levitz, DC Comics President and Publisher, has announced that Karen Berger has been promoted to Senior Vice President -- Executive Editor, Vertigo.  Ms. Berger, who joined DC in 1979, will keep on doing what she has been doing so masterfully since she created the Vertigo imprint in 1993, namely managing DC's edgiest, most groundbreaking titles (Y The Last Man, The Quitter, Fables, The Fountain).

Vertigo titles (especially Neil Gaiman's Sandman series) have been hugely important in DC's push into the bookstore market, and two movies made from Vertigo published titles, Constantine (based on the Hellblazer graphic novels) and V for Vendetta (based on the graphic novel written by Alan Moore), have demonstrated not only considerable power at the box office, but, especially in the case of V for Vendetta, the ability to drive sales of graphic novels in both bookstores and comic shops.
