According to The Hollywood Reporter, the AMC cable network is developing a remake of The Prisoner TV series and plans to begin airing the new hour-long show in January 2008. AMC will air episodes of the original Prisoner around the time of the new series launch along with other films that fall into a similar genre.
AMC said there will be a minimum of six to eight episodes for the new Prisoner and that producers are hoping to bring in a big name director/executive producer. The series will be written by Bill Gallagher (BBC's Conviction and Clocking Off).
Prisoner will follow a similar story line to the original and AMC hopes to tap into the existing fan base for the classic sci-fi thriller that first aired in 1967-68.
DVDs of the original series are available, along with a limited number of book titles.
