Viz Media has announced that it has acquired the download to own and download to rent rights for the Death Note anime, based on the highly successful Death Note manga. No DVD releases have been announced. According to the announcement, a variety of online download vendors will be used to sell the episodes.
Viz has not previously sold downloads, although it has made streaming episodes available free through its partnership with Cartoon Network on Jetstream (see 'Viz and Cartoon Network Stream Together').
