Jesse Leon McCann of Comics Unlimited in Westminster, California saw the news that Marvel's Civil War books were going to be late (see 'Civil War Delays Rile Retailers') and rues the loss of 'a beautiful thing:'

It's such a fragile thing when a publisher, its promotions, the fans (including newly acquired fans) and retailers all fall in line to support a series like Civil War.  We thought we were clinking on all cylinders until this ugly turn of events.  Retailers had a pretty good idea how many to order, how many fans to expect buying the books.  Unbeknownst to everyone else, the publisher wasn't pulling its weight, or rather, couldn't maintain pulling its weight, and everyone is disappointed.  Yes, many Civil War books will sell whenever they arrive, but it won't be the same.  It was a beautiful thing we all thought we had going, but it was an illusion.
