The very first Batmobile created for the 1966 TV series by the legendary Hollywood car customizer George Barris was sold at auction on Saturday for $4.6 million at the Barrett-Jackson house in Scottsdale, Arizona.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, Barris created the first of six Batmobiles produced for the series for $15,000 using the frame of the 1955 Ford Futura concept car that Barris had purchased for $1.  The actual high bid for the car of $4.2 million was tendered by Rich Champagne, a Tempe Arizona businessman and car collector. Fees made up the rest of the cost of the vehicle.

While the $4.6 million price tag is no where near the highest amount ever paid for a classic car, it does match the record $4.6 million that a collector paid for the Aston Martin DB5 driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger.
