Warner Bros. has tapped Craig Brewer (Black Snake Moan, Hustle & Flow) to write and direct a trilogy based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan.  Warners has seen several other Tarzan projects “wither on the vine,” and the studio actually has a second Tarzan film project in development with Adam Cozad writing a different version of ERB’s King of the Jungle saga with Tron: Legacy’s Joseph Kosinski attached to direct.

According to Deadline, Warners is extremely anxious to get a live-action Tarzan franchise back in theaters and the studio is still evaluating both of its current Tarzan projects.  The Tarzan trilogy is “a passion project” for Brewer, whose stock has risen thanks to the remake of Footloose he directed for Paramount, which is set to be released on October 14th.
