Max Brooks, the creator of World War Z and the Zombie Survival Guide, launched his first zombie comic book series last spring (see "'Extinction Parade' Comic to Debut June 19th"). Now comes word that Legendary Entertainment has acquired the rights to Extinction Parade and is developing the property for television. Given the success of The Walking Dead, it’s a wonder that we haven’t seen more zombie series on the small screen, but Brooks’ saga of a declining race of vampires threatened by a zombie virus, if it makes it through the developmental process, should at least provide a different take on the zombie narrative than The Walking Dead.
Bleeding Cool, which broke the story of Legendary’s acquisition of the property, reports that Brooks will be involved in the production of the TV series, and will write the pilot episode. Extinction Parade presents a stunning critique of the failure to evolve in the face of radical environmental change, providing some lessons that may be of use to all of us in the coming decades.
The first trade paperback collection of Extinction Parade is due out from publisher Avatar Press in July of 2014.
