Gen Con set new records in attendance, exhibitors, and events in 2014, with steady growth in all categories (see “Business as Usual at Gen Con”). Attendance was 56,614 unique attendees, according to the show organizers, 14% growth over last year’s show (see “Gen Con Tops 49,000”). Turnstile attendance (the sum of daily attendance) was 184,699 over the run of the show.
Show attendance has doubled over the last five years (attendance in 2009 was 27,900, see “Gen Con Attendance Down a Hair”), and has grown by over 10% for four consecutive years.
The 370+ exhibitors also set a new record, after an early sell-out of the exhibit hall (see “Gen Con Exhibit Hall 2014 Sells Out”). And the 14,000+ events was also a record.
The show appears to be using the entire capacity of the convention center, so in order to grow there’s going to have to be more energy devoted to managing the traffic flow, especially in the exhibit hall, where aisles are getting tight at times.
Local charity Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana's BackSacks program was this year's Charity Partner; over $40,000 was raised, including $20,000 from Mayfair Games' Cones of Dunshire event.
