Australian actor Matt Nable (Riddick) has been cast in a recurring role in an as-yet-unrevealed number of Arrow episodes as Ra’s al Ghul.  Ra’s al Ghul’s League of Assassins has been very much a part of the Arrow narrative so far, and his daughter Nyssa al Ghul, who is played by Katrina Law, debuted on the series last season, but it won’t be until the fourth episode of Season 3, the show’s 50th episode ("The Magician") that Nable makes his debut as Ra’s al Ghul.  Meanwhile the CW has released a new trailer for Arrow’s third season, which provides a first look at Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) as Ray Palmer (see "Brandon Routh on 'Arrow'").

Arrow star Steven Amell tweeted the news that Nable was joining the show’s cast along with an illustration of Ra’s al Ghul, who was ranked as #7 on IGN’s recent poll of Top Comic Book Villains.  Created by Denny O’Neill and Neal Adams for Batman #232 (June 1971), Ra’s al Ghul will be the primary antagonist during the third season of Arrow.  The character was played by Liam Neeson in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, and voiced to great effect by David Warner in Batman: The Animated Series.

The third season of Arrow kicks off on Wednesday, October 8th on the CW network.
