Gary Whitta, who was recent signed as the writer on the first stand-alone Star Wars movie (see "Director Signed for First Stand-alone 'Star Wars' Film"), will write the script for a film adaptation of Mark Millar’s Starlight, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting.
Twentieth Century Fox acquired the rights for the Millarworld Universe title before the Image comic debuted (see "Movie Deal for Millar's 'Starlight'"). Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past) was named as producer, with Steve Asbell overseeing for Fox.
Whitta wrote Book of Eli as well as the Telltale Games The Walking Dead game and an early version of the long-gestating live-action Akira script (see "Hughes Brothers Helming 'Akira'").
The Starlight comic is the first in an interlinking group of eight or nine "Millarworld" titles (see "Mark Millar's 'Starlight'") and tells the story of aging space hero Duke McQueen, who is invited back to space for one final adventure.
