Bryan Singer will return for another round of X-Men action, returning to the director’s chair for X-Men: Apocalypse (see "Next 'X-Men' Movie Set"), The Hollywood Reporter is reporting.
Singer has finalized a deal with 20th Century Fox to direct the latest X-Men film, now that the lawsuit that alleged that Singer sexually abused a minor has been dropped (see "Abuse Accuser Withdrawing Singer Claim"). Singer did not take part in the promotion for X-Men: Days of Future Past after the obviously-timed suit was filed (see "Singer Won't Do Publicity for 'Days of Future Past'").
Apocalypse will closely follow events from X-Men: Days of Future Past by setting the story in the 1980s, where the younger versions of the characters (played by James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence) will battle Apocalypse and his four Horsemen, who were introduced in the coda of DoFP.
Now that Singer has been confirmed, fans of Nightcrawler and Gambit may get their wish of both characters returning to the big screen (see "Bryan Singer Wants Nightcrawler & Gambit for 'Age of the Apocalypse'").
