Disney has announced in its conference call and via Twitter that Pixar will release Toy Story 4, directed by John Lasseter, on June 16, 2017. A 2017 release date puts the fourth film in the franchise at seven years after the release of Toy Story 3 in June of 2010 (see "'Toy Story' Triumphs"). Toy Story 3 generated over $1 billion in global box office and $10 billion in global retail sales (see "'Toy Story 3' Tops in Merchandise"), Disney CEO Robert Iger said in the company’s conference call with analysts.
Iger also announced that Pixar will release Incredibles 2 and Car Wars 3, but gave no dates.
The storyline in Toy Story 4 will pick up where Toy Story 3 ended, and will be a love story, Lasseter told the Los Angeles Times.
