Today Marvel Studios released a new Guardians of the Galaxy featurette that has actor Vin Diesel mouthing his singular catchphrase "I am Groot," in 15 different languages including Japanese, Hindi, Polish, Kazakh, Mandarin and ten others.
The reason behind the release of this featurette today is a burgeoning trend in home entertainment sales that is giving digital downloads a window (usually about 3 weeks) before the movie is released on either DVD or Blu-ray. Guardians of the Galaxy is due to be released on DVD and BD on December 9, but it is now available for digital downloading, which is becoming an increasingly important home entertainment sales channel for studios (and with its lack of physical product, the cheapest for the studios to produce and therefore, at least at this stage the most profitable on a per unit basis).
