Heavyweight TV producer Jerry Bruckheimer (CSI Everywhere) has secured a pilot commitment from the Fox TV network for an adaptation of Warren Ellis’ 12-issue Wildstorm comic book series Global Frequency. Farscape creator Rockne O’Bannon is writing the script for the pilot for the series, which Deadline describes as "chronicling the workings of The Global Frequency, a privately-funded crime-fighting organization that uses worldwide crowd-sourcing to solve problems that the police cannot."
If the Deadline synopsis is correct, then it marks a bit of a shift from the Global Frequency comic book series, in which the secret intelligence organization known as the Global Frequency attempts to thwart secret government initiatives, rogue military operations, terrorists, and religious cults rather than run-of-the-mill crime. There have been previous attempts to adapt Global Frequency for TV. The property has been in development since 2004 (see "'Global Frequency' on the WB" and "Another Try at 'Global Frequency'").
Global Frequency joins a growing list of DC Comics properties that will be competing for slots during the coming pilot season thanks to the strong performance of the current season’s crop of shows (see "DC TV Ratings, Record, and Strong"). Supergirl already has a commitment from CBS (see "'Flash' Producers Confirm 'Supergirl' Rumors"), while Lucifer has a pilot commitment from Fox (see "'Lucifer' Headed to TV"), and a Teen Titans series is in development at TNT (see "'Titans' Live Action").
