The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) announced it is participating in #GivingTuesday, a new global campaign day hoping to spark donations in the wake of a weekend dedicated to consumer spending.

The CBLDF is offering those who donate, become a member of CBLDF, or make a purchase at the CBLDF online store a download of an exclusive #GivingTuesday edition of the Defend Comics anthology.  The 58-page anthology includes stories by Neil Gaiman and Jim Lee, Jason Aaron and Moritat, Andy Diggle and Ben Templesmith, Terry Moore, Sergio Aragones and Mark Evanier, Evan Dorkin, and Amy Chu and Shannon Wheeler, among others.

In 2014, the CBLDF defused several legal crises before they rose to the level of prosecution, took a leadership role in the comics-focused Banned Books Week (see "Banned Books Week Focuses on Comics"), expanded its educational program, delivered more than 40 public presentations, exhibited at 21 conventions, addressed more than two dozen challenges to comics and other books, and added a new monthly podcast.

According to GivingTuesday.org, #GivingTuesday was founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street YMCA In New York City in partnership with the United Nations Foundation.  "We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals.  Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back," says a statement on the site.  "On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give."

The CBLDF is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the First Amendment rights of the comics medium by providing legal defense for First Amendment cases affecting comic book stores, libraries, and industry partners.
