According to the Sacramento Bee, 'One-time comic book store magnate' Ross Rojek pled guilty on Friday to one count each of securities fraud and mail fraud.  Rojek appeared in U.S. District Court in Sacramento clad in orange prison scrubs and bound in chains.  According to the Bee Rojek 'admitted that he had bilked investors out of millions by luring them to invest in fictitious companies.'

While the crimes that Rojek pled to could carry a maximum combined sentence of 25 years in prison (plus a $25,000 fine), the a source for the prosecution told the Bee that a sentence of seven to nine years is likely, saying that the prosecutors went for the lowest sentencing level because Rojek pled guilty and was cooperating with the investigation of his phony companies and Ponzi scheme (see 'Rojek Arrested on Thirteen Counts').

Rojek, whose court appearance added a whole new dimension to the term 'chain retailer,' owned the Comics & Comix group of retail stores.  When he acquired Comics & Comix it was at seven stores, one of the largest chains of comic book stores in the country.  By the time Rojek was arrested last April Comics & Comix was down to just two stores, both of which have now been shuttered.
