The CW will start doing whatever a spider can in early 2008 when it launches the tentatively titled The Amazing Spider-Man animated series.

The series, which had been previously announced as a straight-to-DVD release (see 'Sony Preps 'Spidey' OVA'), was picked up by the Kids WB programming block that runs Saturday mornings on the CW.

The story will focus on a 16-year-old Peter Parker who, just as he comes to terms with his super powers, must battle the rigors of starting high school.

The team of Greg Weisman (Gargoyles and W.I.T.C.H.) and Victor Cook (Hellboy: Blood and Iron and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command) will produce the series.
