Warner Home Video has announced the July 31st release of Babylon 5: The Lost Tales, the first direct-to-video feature film based on the popular science fiction cult hit created by J. Michael Straczynski in 1993.  The action in the new film, which was written and directed by Straczynski, takes place in 2271 A.D., ten years after John Sheridan (Bruce Boxleitner) has been appointed President of the Interstellar Alliance. Boxleitner is joined by other members of the original cast in this tale of a fateful Babylon 5 reunion that could prevent Earth's impending doom.

The Babylon 5 TV series (and its five spin-off 'made for TV' movies) have sold more than $44 million in video sales.  The new Babylon 5: The Lost Tales will have an SRP of $24.98 and will contain a number of extras calculated to appeal to fans of the series including the 'Straczynski Diaries,' a series of vignettes documenting every phase of pre-production, production and post-production for The Lost Tales.

Marketing for The Lost Tales will include a major online component (which makes perfect sense since thanks to JMS Babylon 5 was one of the first properties to use the Internet to great advantage) as well as TV advertising and a major presence at the San Diego Comic-Con.
