Warner Brothers Home Video has announced the July31st release of the DVD edition of 300, Zack Snyder's film of Frank Miller's graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae.  Snyder's movie, which earned $208 million at the domestic box office and $231 million overseas, was the surprise hit of the first quarter of 2007.  The success of the movie spurred strong sales of Frank Miller's 300 graphic novel, which was until very recently the best-selling graphic novel of the year in American bookstores in units and remains the top dollar book by a very wide margin.  The release of the 300 DVD should result in additional sales of the graphic novel as was the case with the DVD releases of successful movies tied to strong original graphic novels such as Sin City in 2005 (see 'The DVD Effect Materializes') and V for Vendetta in 2006 (see 'V for Vendetta Tops DVD Sales').

The 300 DVD will be available in a single disc no frills version (MSRP $28.99) as well as a two-disc Special Edition ($34.99), which includes commentaries, featurettes, deleted scenes, and a photo gallery.  The HD DVD release ($39.99) also includes a 'Vengeance and Valor' game.
