According to The Hollywood Reporter, four sequences of The Dark Knight movie currently in production will be filmed with Imax cameras -- the first time for a major feature film. Using the Imax technology during production should improve the Imax audience's experience by providing a higher aspect ratio in those scenes.

Most Imax-bound films are shot in 35mm and remastered for Imax theaters, but in this case the Imax camera shot film will be combined with the 35mm portions.  Director Christopher Nolan said of his decision, 'I'm thrilled to be able to expand the scope of the film, not just in terms of the story, but in giving Batman and the Joker the largest possible canvas on which to face off  No existing technology compares wit the Imax format in terms of its ability to throw the audience into the action.'

The Dark Night is currently slated for release July 18, 2008 (see 'Gyllenhaal in 'Dark Knight'').
