TV Guide has revealed that another DC Comics character will make an appearance in the seventh season of Smallville, which debuts next fall on the CW network.  It appears that Superman's cousin, Supergirl also managed to escape the destruction of Krypton and landed on Earth at the same time. Although she was a teenager when she left her home planet, she has spent much of the intervening years in suspended animation, so she remains a teen and Clark acts as something of a mentor to her as she adjusts to life on Earth.

Kara has abilities that Clark is yet to develop -- she breaks the 'no tights no flights' rule by soaring into the sky and blithely explains to Clark, 'obviously girls mature faster than boys,' and she also functions as something of a familial anchor for Clark, who has lost his adopted father and remains in Smallville while his adopted mother heads to Washington DC as a U.S. Senator.  Supergirl will be introduced in the Smallville season premiere and is slated to appear in half of next season's episodes.  The producers of Smallville are currently searching for an appropriate actress to portray Supergirl and hope to present their new addition to the Smallville cast to the assembled hordes of comic book fans at Comic Con in San Diego.
