JMS to Pen Darker 'Surfer' Epic

Blowback From FF 2's 'PG' Rating

According to the Los Angeles Times, Fox, which is feeling 'bullish' on the eve of the release of its Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, has commissioned J. Michael Straczynski to write a screenplay for a Silver Surfer spin-off saga.  But, given the negative fan feedback about the FF: Rise of the Silver Surfer's kiddy-friendly 'PG' rating, Fox reportedly wants the Surfer spin-off to appeal to an older (X-Men movie) fan demographic, which should translate into at least a 'PG-13,' if not an 'R.'

JMS, whose screenplay The Changeling could be next on director Clint Eastwood's docket, is certainly well up on the characters having written Marvel's Fantastic Four #527-#541 and he is currently in the midst of a four-issue mini-series, Silver Surfer: Requiem, which debuted on May 30th.
