Long-time comic retailer and Pittsburgh Comicon organizer Michael George was arrested by Pennsylvania state police on Saturday and charged with first degree murder in the execution-style slaying of his wife in July, 1990.  George, the owner of Comic World in Windber, Pennsylvania, is currently awaiting extradition to Michigan, where the crime occurred.

Barbara George, 32 at the time of her death and the mother of two daughters, was killed by a single .38-caliber gunshot wound to the top of her head, an angle that indicated that the victim was kneeling or sitting when she was shot (according to retired Macomb Macomb County Medical Examiner Dr. Werner Spitz at the time, as reported by the Macomb Daily).  Her body was found in Comic World in Clinton Township, Michigan, the store she and her husband operated at the time.  She had closed the store to prepare for a surprise birthday party for her husband; her body was found in a rear storage room later that evening by two long-time customers.

At the time, $30,000 worth of comics were reported missing, a claim that Clinton Township police chief Fred Posavetz said investigators are no longer convinced is true, according to C&G Newspapers.  The victim's cash and jewelry were not taken.

The case was re-opened in January of this year, and the investigation included re-interviewing witnesses and potential witnesses, including George, and reviewing old evidence.
