The Hollywood trades are reporting that Dimension Films, having scored a success with its recent remake of Halloween, has decided to commission a new version of Clive Barker's Hellraiser.  Barker directed the 1987 Hellraiser, which was based on his own novella, The Hellbound Heart.  With its twisted tale of an adulterous wife trying to free her lover from Hades, Hellraiser was memorable primarily because of its introduction of 'Cenobites,' and in particular Pinhead, a stylish Gothic character who dominated late 1980s horror films and is probably responsible for more piercings than the inventor of the crossbow.

French filmmakers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, who created the supernatural thriller Inside, are writing and directing the new Hellraiser film.  Dimension is the genre film arm of the Weinstein Company, which has acquired the rights to Inside

Dimension's recent remake of Halloween, which was directed by Rob Zombie, earned $57 million at the box office.  Dimension is hoping to get the new Hellraiser film made before possible strikes by actors and directors when their contracts with the studios run out next spring, which means it could debut in October of 2008.
