Shaun Tan's wordless graphic novel The Arrival, published in the U.S. by Scholastic, won the prestigious Fauve d'Or -- Prix du Meilleur Album (Best Album Prize) at the recently completed Festival International de la Bande Dessinee in Angouleme, France.  The Arrival has sold well on this side of the pond, hitting the New York Times Children's Bestseller List.

Moomin by Tove Jannson, published in North America by Drawn and Quarterly (see 'D&Q to Publish Moomin Collections') won the Essential Patrimoine (essential heritage) prize.

The Grand Prix was shared for the first time, between Philippe Dupuy and Charles Berberian.

The Festival in Angouleme was reported to have hosted 220,000 attendees this year, up 10% from a year ago.
