Rackham has announced its Rackham Legends line of unpainted metal and resin miniatures, which will be cast in limited numbers and only available online via the Rackham and Fantasy Flight online stores.  The new Legends range of miniatures will contain figures designed for both AT-43 and Confrontation, and the company doesn't rule out expansion into other universes in the future.

Rackham intends to use the Legends line as a laboratory for artistic research and some of the figures could eventually be mass produced and made widely available in pre-painted versions that would be available via distributors and hobby stores.

The decision to make its unpainted miniatures in only very limited editions would appear to indicate that the market for unpainted metal miniatures is shrinking fast in the face of competition from ever-more detailed pre-painted plastic figures.  The question remains whether the market for these unpainted minis is so small that Rackham's decision to bypass distributors and hobby retailers will be regarded as inconsequential and go largely unnoticed, or will it generate controversy?
