Nexus Editrice has revealed the first images of sculptures created for the The Age of Conan Board Game, which will be released worldwide this summer (Fantasy Flight Games is publishing the game here--see “Age of Conan Due Early Summer”). In the game each of the four factions, Aquilonia, Stygia, Turan, and Hyperborea will be represented by two types of figures, an Emissary figure and an Army unit.

One of the figures being revealed is the Stygian Emissary, who is pictured riding a camel from his desert land and holding a hooded cobra, the symbol of his sorcery-based powers.  The other figure is that of a member of the Hyperborean army unit, which is based on the giant Gumakhi Warriors as depicted in the recent Dark Horse Conan comic books.  Age of Conan Board Game designer Roberto Di Meglio explains: “The way Hyperboreans have been depicted in the most recent cycle of Conan comics is just incredible - there were many interpretations in the past about how this land and its inhabitants look like, and we decided that the one created in these stories is really the best!”

The figures for the The Age of Conan Board Game are first sculpted as 18-20cm (7-8 inch) prototypes, which are then reduced via a pantographing process, which scales them down and engraves them on a steel mold, to the highly detailed 25mm figures that will be included with the game.  The game, which has been created by Roberto DiMeglio, Marco Maggi, and Francesco Nepitello, will include lots of miniatures, a huge map of the Hyborian Age and top level components.
