Bandai Entertainment has announced that it has acquired the rights to the Gainax mecha anime Gurren Lagann.  Rights were initially acquired by ADV, but when it was not rescheduled along with other ADV titles that had previously been on a brief hiatus (see “ADV Titles Back on Schedule”), it became clear that its rights issues might not be so easily resolved.

In an effort to get the title out quickly, Bandai plans to release it in three subtitle-only volumes in July, August and September at $29.98.  Then in early 2009, an English dub version will be released along with Japanese audio and English subtitles in both a regular and special edition versions.

Gurren Lagann won "best televisioln series" and "best character design" at the recent Tokyo Anime Fair.
