Insight Editions, which produces a number of high end collectible books covering all phases of pop culture, is preparing two unique pop-up books for fall 2008 including the “first-ever” pop-up graphic novel, Will Eisner’s The Spirit: A Pop-Up Graphic Novel ($34.95).  The Eisner pop-up is due out in October in plenty of time to take advantage of the growing interest in the property as the Christmas Day debut of Frank Miller’s Spirit movie approaches.

Designed by renowned paper engineer Bruce Foster and featuring classic Eisner art, the deluxe hardcover Spirit Pop-Up Book includes seven full-color pop-up spreads, mini booklets, and scene change pull-outs among its 16 pages.

The other major pop-up release from Insight, which is distributed by Random House, is Mad About Politics: An Outrageous Pop-Up Political Parody ($34.95), which is due out in August in order to take full advantage of the coming political silly season (a.k.a. presidential campaign).  Outgoing President Bush gets skewered, as does gun safety poster boy Dick Cheney, but Mad lets democrats like the Clintons and Howard (The Scream) Dean have it with both barrels as well.  The 14-page hardcover includes six full-color pop-up spreads plus inserts, posters, and hilarious faux political memorabilia.
