Spectacular Spider-Man producers Greg Weisman (Gargoyles) and Vic Cook (Hellboy: Blood and Iron) have announced that they are collaborating on two new all-ages comic book series, Progeny and Mecha Nation, which SLG will publish in late 2009.  Weisman and Cook formed their creative partnership while working on Disney’s Gargoyles animated series in the 1990s and have recently been working on Sony’s highly successful Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon series, which is currently airing on the CW Network.  Now they are bringing the expertise they have developed in the world of animation to bear on two comic book projects that target a broad audience.

Progeny is the story of teenager Mike Talan whose world is changed forever when he learns that his granddad was the ultimate superhero known as “Night –Ray,” and he has inherited his grandfather’s legacy.  Don’t be surprised to see Progeny exploited in other media besides comic books.

The other new comic, Mecha Nation is the anime-influenced saga of teenagers attending Glass Lake High School, where a large percentage of the student body is made up of “mecha-sapiens,” individuals empowered with the ability to transform into Earth-rescuing robotic warriors.
