Mattel’s newest Barbie doll, arrayed in the black leather and fishnet stockings of DC Comics’ Black Canary, has at least one conservative group labeling the doll as “filth.”

“Barbie has always been on the tarty side and this is taking it too far. A children’s doll in sexually suggestive clothing is irresponsible – it’s filth,” was U.K. group Christian Voice’s take on the doll, part of Mattel’s Black Label line of dolls, described on Mattel’s Barbie Collector web site as “For the adult collector, age 14 and older.”

The Black Canary doll, shipping to mass market stores in September, is just one in a line of superheroine-inspired Barbies already released or coming out in the latter half of 2008: Batgirl (July), Supergirl (August), and Wonder Woman (October) are all due to get the Barbie treatment by year’s end.
