According to The Hollywood Reporter Paramount Home Entertainment will release Marvel Studios’ Iron Man movie on DVD and Blu-Ray on September 30th.  With a domestic theatrical gross of $315 million Iron Man remains the #2 release of 2008 so far trailing only The Dark Knight, and its release just one day before the start of the fourth quarter, will likely make it the first of up to 18 big theatrical movies that will hit the market during Q4.  As the first huge hit of the year to come out on DVD Paramount and Marvel are hoping that Iron Man will display the kind of “legs” in the DVD market that it has in theaters where it still remains months after its May release.

According to The Reporter Iron Man will be available in a two-disc Ultimate Edition on DVD and Blu-ray that will include a seven-part making-of documentary and a six-part feature on Iron Man’s comic book origins along with Robert Downey’s original screen test, a documentary on the film’s visual effects, plus deleted and extended scenes.  The Blu-ray edition also includes an exclusive “Hall of Armor” feature that allows viewers to zoom in on each of the three Iron Man suits, activate digital schematics, and then fly around to examine the capabilities of each suit in detail.  The exclusive features fit right in with Tinseltown’s big push on Blu-ray in Q4—it should be interesting to see how competitively the Iron Man Blu-ray disc is priced in comparison the standard DVD Ultimate Edition.

Iron Man will also be available in a single disc DVD intended primarily for the rental market, which will contain just the movie plus deleted and extended scenes.
