At Gen Con Indy, Fantasy Flight Games announced its plans to produce a new board game based on George R. R. Martin’s popular fantasy novels.  A Song of Ice and Fire: The Adventure Game casts players as one of the major characters from the novel, striving for political and military dominance in the kingdom of Westeros.  The game will be released in 2009 and is designed by A Game of Thrones CCG co-designer Eric Lang.  The game will be separate from FFG’s previous A Game of Thrones board game, released in 2003.

At the convention, Fantasy Flight also dropped broad hints about the possibility of a living card game (see “FFG Retools CCGs,” “FFG Explains Its (Non-) Collectible Game Strategy”) based on the Warhammer universe in early 2009, a logical move considering FFG’s recent acquisition of Games Workshop’s other non-miniatures licenses (see “Fantasy Flight Gets Games Workshops RPGs, Board, and Card Games”).

In addition, Fantasy Flight announced three electronic adaptations of their games at Gen Con.  Citadels, the best-selling game in Fantasy Flight’s history, will be adapted for the iPhone in spring of 2009, while a partnership with videogame developer Big Rooster will bring Winds of War: Famous Aces and Tide of Iron to the Xbox Live Arcade and Sony PlayStation Network in late 2008 and spring 2009, respectively.
