The Kidrobot designer toy line will serve as the inspiration for a series of feature films from Paramount’s Nickelodeon Movies, according to Variety.  The films, planned as a mix of live action and animation, will tell the story of an ordinary kid transported into a world populated by Kidrobot characters.

Kidrobot was founded by designer Paul Budnitz in 2002, and has grown to include four stores and an apparel line in addition to the designer toys on which the company was based.  The toys themselves are often created in collaboration with other artists from the designer toy movement.  Kidrobot products are also sold in a limited number of independent stores around the country.

Although it will undoubtedly seem incongruous to some that a line from the designer toy movement, which is based primarily on limited edition products, is being adapted into mass entertainment, the creativity of the movement deserves a larger audience and it appears that it may now find one.
